  1. Mike, get off the drugs and get an engineering job. You won’t be young forever. Need to start saving for retirement unless you want to be working when you are 95. It is time to be an adult, fool. Working in corporate America isn’t that bad. Why not give it a shot? You could do something like drafting with AutoCAD if engineering isn’t for you. That is pretty laid back, easy money.

    • Matt,
Thank you for reading and for your comment. I really appreciate you reaching out to me.

Finally, I’ve received a counter-argument. Until now, everyone has just agreed with me, which means I’m not reaching the correct audience.

Obviously, I’ve failed in my attempt to inspire adventure and will put more effort henceforth to creating a quality blog.

It makes me sad that so many people rely on the shelter of a steady income to avoid the perils of the unknown. It’s exactly that dangerous sensation that allows us to separate the important from the unimportant. It also allows us to reconstruct the foundation of who we are to our own design.

Working in a bar at a popular tourist destination like Key West, I see the newly retired all the time, striving to reclaim all the time they spent working to build their futures. Now their future is here and they are barely healthy enough to enjoy it.

If you love engineering, keep doing it. If there is something else that gets you more excited, please, do that. Don’t put it off, because what we want changes over time; you might not even want that anymore once you finally have time.

My brother shared with me an interesting speculation: “Would you rather live a lavish life while you are old, or live an adventurous life while you are young? Which one of these options do you have to commit yourself to now in order to have the possibility of achieving both?”

You sound like a smart guy, and I’m sure you’ll figure out what’s best for your life. I would love to hear more of your thoughts. Also, take more drugs 😉
